Thomas Rekem – The Life of an Indie Author

Thomas Rekem followed his dream throughout his educational and professional career. In college, he studied Creative Writing because he wanted to be a writer. He was inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien when he was in sixth grade. Ever since, he has been working to be a published author. After Rekem graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy in 2009, Rekem went to work at an advertising firm in downtown Detroit. After a year of writing on weekends and nights, Rekem came out with his first novel, which was published in e-book form on

Thomas Rekem used his advertising background to successfully market his book and soon had many Kindle users downloading his novel. Marketing one’s own book is a necessary skill for any indie author, and Rekem was fortunate to come up with a winning formula using social media and favorable reviews from critics online. Indie authors have to do much of the legwork of getting their books into the hands of as many people as possible, but if they can develop a large readership, they get more of the royalties from sales of their book more quickly. It’s a tradeoff that Thomas Rekem favors as his budding career as an indie author takes off.

Thomas Rekem lives and works in Detroit, still. He plans on releasing his latest fantasy novel, Creations in Time in December of 2015. After living primarily in the digital realm, Rekem is proud to offer a limited release of physical copies of Creations in Time when he finishes the novel.
